Amazon Shifts from European Roads to Trains and Boats
Amazon is showing an increasing preference for rail and maritime transportation in Europe, witnessing a 50 percent surge in their utilization this year. The company highlights that not only are these modes of transport more eco-friendly, but they also often prove to be more efficient and faster compared to traditional road transport.
In navigating the European landscape, Amazon is increasingly favoring trains and boats over trucks. The company has forged partnerships with European carriers such as Cargo Beamer, Viia, the Mercitalia Group, Grimaldi, Stena Line, and DFDS. Together, they are utilizing over 100 rail lanes and more than 300 sea routes, resulting in a significant reduction of nearly half in carbon emissions.
The Specialized Infrastructure of Europe
Amazon highlights additional benefits, stating, The distinctive geographic landscape and infrastructure of Europe often make rail and sea routes a more efficient and faster means of transporting goods.
"Trains and boats are frequently more efficient and faster," according to Amazon.
Furthermore, Amazon underscores that around 60 percent of platform sales are attributed to third-party sellers. The online marketplace consistently focuses on enhancing inventory management across warehouses on the continent, encompassing those operated by partners utilizing Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).
Environmental Commitment
