In a memo addressed to Audible employees, CEO Bob Carrigan expressed that the decision to reduce staff was not taken lightly, emphasizing the need to become leaner and more efficient. Carrigan outlined that such measures are essential for the division to operate effectively in the current landscape and foreseeable future, ensuring the continued delivery of top-notch audio storytelling to customers worldwide. Amazon initiated its most extensive layoffs in history, commencing at the end of 2022 and extending through 2023, resulting in the elimination of over 27,000 jobs across nearly every sector of the company.
