Amazon’s Audible unit lays off about 5% of staff

Amazon's Audible division is implementing a workforce reduction of around 5% as part of a strategic move to position the unit for sustained success, according to a communication from the executive overseeing the division on Thursday.
Amazon’s Audible unit lays off about 5% of staff
This decision comes in the wake of significant staff reductions in other Amazon units, including Prime Video, MGM Studios, and Twitch livestreaming, where hundreds of employees were laid off on Wednesday.
In a memo addressed to Audible employees, CEO Bob Carrigan expressed that the decision to reduce staff was not taken lightly, emphasizing the need to become leaner and more efficient. Carrigan outlined that such measures are essential for the division to operate effectively in the current landscape and foreseeable future, ensuring the continued delivery of top-notch audio storytelling to customers worldwide. The details of these staff cuts were reported earlier by Business Insider.
Audible, acquired by Amazon in 2008 for approximately $300 million, is recognized for hosting audiobooks and podcasts. Despite maintaining a degree of autonomy since the acquisition, the division is not immune to the broader organizational restructuring occurring within its parent company.
Amazon initiated its most extensive layoffs in history, commencing at the end of 2022 and extending through 2023, resulting in the elimination of over 27,000 jobs across nearly every sector of the company.

The ongoing evolution within Amazon, marked by organizational adjustments and staff reductions, underscores the company's commitment to adaptability and efficiency in a rapidly changing business landscape. As Audible and its parent company undergo these transformations, the focus remains on staying agile and responsive to market demands while continuing to provide high-quality content to audiences worldwide.
